The Alice in Wonderland metaphor reflects the uncertainty, curiosity, and transformation that learners experience in today’s world. AI amplifies storytelling by enhancing Chapters, personalising content, and generating immersive experiences, making learning more adaptive, interactive, and impactful.
Workshop Experience
This 90-minute interactive session blends human creativity with AI to explore how storytelling can solve L&D challenges. Participants will co-create new Alice in Wonderland metaphor stories integrating AI-generated prompts.
Chapter 1: BEGIN – The Human Wonderland: Welcome to the Rabbit Hole! Participants will complete an Alice-inspired Story Map based on real learning and development (L&D) challenges, actions, results and
insight.
Chapter 2: MIDDLE – The AI Mirror: Let’s enter a world where your story is “reversed” using AI prompts to refine, expand, and personalise your creative expression.
Chapter 3: END – Co-Creating the Future: Congratulations! You have free-falled safely and exited AI-Land. Humans and AI collaborate to create final stories that showcase the power of co-creation.

Dr Anriët Van Deventer is an academic, researcher, and arts education specialist with a PhD in Humanities Education from the University of Pretoria, where she was awarded Full Academic Honorary Colours. She lectures at the University of South Africa (Unisa), specialising in Design, Dramatic Studies, and Visual Arts Methodology, and is passionate about the Arts, curriculum transformation, ODeL, and emerging educational technologies. With over 30 years of experience, her career includes leadership roles as Head of Department for Creative Arts at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, Curator at the Polokwane Art Museum, and International Art Gallery Manager. Her expertise includes Design Thinking, Creative Arts Education, and Cultural Heritage. Furthermore, with a research focus on applied creativity, and technology in the Arts, the focus is on innovative pedagogies and empowering the community at large.
Anriët holds multiple certifications, including in Art-Based Therapy, Project Management, and Curriculum Design & Planning, and has contributed to national education initiatives. She has developed a South African-focused Design Thinking tool and advocates for creativity’s transformative role in education. Outside of academia, she is a black belt martial artist and former dancer, embodying the philosophy of growth through experience. Her work continues to inspire teachers, students, researchers, and creatives to embrace innovative, boundary-pushing approaches to teaching and learning.
